A current non-provisional and non-probationary resident country driver's licence is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, and/or displaying the driver's photograph, an international driver's licence is also required. When an international driver's licence is being presented the domestic licence must also be presented. The primary hirer must hold both a valid drivers licence and a credit card for identification purposes.

Drivers must be between 21 and 75 years of age for car rentals. Drivers need to be between 25 and 75 for the Urban Wagon (UWAR category). For drivers 75 years of age or over, a medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive for the duration of the hire is required upon vehicle collection.

For 2WD car hires up to 31 March 2010, drivers between the ages of 21-25 will incur a surcharge of AU$22 per day, in addition to the daily rate for Northern Territory hires.

For 2WD car hires from 01 April 2010, drivers between the ages of 21-24 will incur a surcharge of AU$22 per day in addition to the daily rate.

Fee is paid upon collection of the vehicle.

2WD Cars:

Rental days are calculated on a 24-hour basis. The minimum rental period is 1 day for all east coast locations and Perth and 3 days for NT locations, where pick up and return is the same location or within the same city.

4WD Cars (PFMR):

4WD rental cars are based on a 24 hour period and require a minimum hire of 5 days. The minimum hire for all one-way rentals is 7 days.

Minimum rental periods are subject to change during peak periods.

2WD Cars:

One-way rentals are permitted between Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The minimum hire requirement for one-way rentals between these locations is 3 days. This includes both airport and non airport locations.

One-way rentals are permitted between Hobart, Launceston and Devonport. The minimum hire requirement for one-way rentals between these locations is 3 days from 01 April 2010.

The 8-seater van (IVAR) is on request for one-way hires.  The Intermediate wagon is not permitted to travel one-way within the Northern Territory until 01 April 2010.

Rentals between the city and the airport within the same city (listed above) have a minimum hire requirement of 1 day. Northern Territory locations have a 3 day minimum hire requirement at all times. The exception is when pick up is from either Alice Springs or Ayers Rock and return is either Alice Springs or Ayers Rock (hire must be one way). In this instance, a minimum hire requirement of 1 day applies.

A one-way rental fee of AU$330.00 will apply where the rental is one or two days.  Rental of three days or more will not be subject to the one-way fee. One-way hires are not allowed out of or into the states of Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

4WD Cars (PFMR):

One-way rentals are available between all our branches, with the exception being into or out of Tasmania. These are on request.

Britz locations include Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth & Sydney. One-way hires require a minimum rental of 7 days and a one-way fee of AU$250 applies for Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart or Adelaide and $350 applies for Darwin, Broome, Alice Springs or Perth.

From 01 April 2010, where vehicle collection is from Brisbane and return is to Sydney the one-way fee is waived.

Yes, if you are hiring a 2WD car. We have airport locations in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney (plus Launceston and Devonport from 01 April 2010). An airport concession fee will be charged for hires that pick-up from airport locations. This fee is included in "airport" rates.

There are no cancellation fees for 2WD cars. If you cancel your Britz 4WD, the following fees will apply:

If cancelled up to 22 days prior to pick-up               No Fee
If cancelled from 21 to 7 days prior to pick-up         20% of Rental
If cancelled 6 to 1 days prior to pick-up                  50% of Rental
If cancelled on day of pick up or No-Show               100% of Rental
If vehicle is returned early for any reason               No refund available for the unused days

We accept Visa Card, MasterCard and American Express. Please note for the 4WD Car (PFMR), a non-refundable surcharge of 2% will apply to all Visa and Mastercard credit card transactions with 4.5% for American Express.

Yes, all of our 2WD Rental Cars (except the Economy Car-ECMR and the 4WD - PFMR) feature automatic transmission.

A baby or booster seat can be fitted in all Rental Cars. We recommend you pre-book baby seats over the Australian school holiday period to avoid disappointment. During this time baby seats are on a request basis only. Booster seats are on request at all times.

2WD Cars:

2WD cars are not permitted to travel on unsealed roads.

Travel to Kangaroo Island must be advised at time of booking and/or upon vehicle collection.

4WD Cars (PFMR):

The 4WD car (PFMR) can be driven on recognised tracks.

It may only travel to the following areas with the written permission of Britz (please contact the local Branch for further information): Simpson Desert, Strzelecki Track, Gunbarrel Highway, Cape York, the Bungle Bungles, Oodnadatta Track, Birdsville Track, Tanami Track, the Plenty Highway and Gibb River Road. From 01 April 2010 the following roads will also require permission: Burke Development Road from Chillagoe to Normanton and Savannah Way from Normanton to Borroloola, Fraser Island, Finke Road (between Alice Springs and Oodnadatta), Central Arnhem Road and Arnhem Land in general.

Vehicles are not permitted on the Canning Stock Route, the Lost City in Litchfield Park, to Cape York between the months of December to May, the Telegraph Road section of the road to Cape York and the Old Gunbarrel Highway. From 01 April 2010 the following areas will also not be permitted: Boggy Hole (Finke Gorge National Park) and the Old South Road from Maryvale to Finke, at any time.

Britz reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, and the distance to nominated destinations in relation to the length of the hire period.
